January 14, 2010: Capital Markets Seminar at Skadden Arps
In collaboration with China Institute, NYU School of Law and Skadden, CBLA recently sponsored a career seminar and a capital markets seminar and panel discussion.
On January 14, 2010, CBLA organized a seminar and panel discussion entitled “Chinese Companies’ Access to U.S. Capital Markets.
The event was co-sponsored by the law firm Skadden Arps, Meagher & Flom LLP and China Institute at Skadden’s New York office. The panel was composed of four capital markets experts: Robert M. Chilstrom (Partner, Skadden), Crocker Coulson (President, CCG Investor Relations), Lawrence Wizel (Director & Audit Comm. Chairman, American Oriental Biotech Co. Ltd., 3SBIO, Inc., and Puda Coal, Inc.) and David Y. Wong (Managing Director, Investment Banking, Newbridge Securities Corporation). The event was hosted by Vincent Jiang from Skadden; the panel was moderated
by Catherine X. Pan from Goodwin Procter LLP.
The panel discussed issues including different avenues for Chinese companies to access U.S. capital markets and the pros and cons of U.S. capital markets as compared to other capital markets. The panelists also expressed their respective views regarding the current status and trend of capital markets deals for Chinese companies. The panelists drew from their expertise in investment banking, investor relations, accounting and auditing, law and business, and engaged the audience in in-depth discussions.
The seminar drew an audience of over 100 people, including members and friends of CBLA and China Institute, as well as guests of Skadden. The event also received enthusiastic media attention. Journalists from The New York Times, London Times, Xinhua News Agency, Ta Kung Pao, Beijing Review, China Business News, and other agencies attended the event.
